Green,

Green Psychology

Consider a popular color of the season right now.  There might be more than 50 shades of green you can appreciate. And, because green has psychology associated with it, you have something to learn.

  • Green is a symbol of nature to include the earth, trees and land
  • Green represents tranquility, well-being, healthiness, good luck, and jealousy
  • Green has long been a symbol of fertility and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns in the 15th-century
  • Green is thought to relieve stress and help heal.  It is said that those who have a green work environment experience fewer stomachaches
  • Green, with its calming effects may give you a sense of comfort when wearing this shade of color

Effects of Green

  • Rejuvenating: Think of green as a color that revitalizes physically, mentally and emotionally
  • Nurturing: Green has a heart link, urging  nurturing
  • Clarity: The color green offers agreeable and diplomatic encouragements
  • Possessiveness: Green is a color that encourages us to want to own things, collect and possess

Green is commonly associated with Couture fashion and elegant retro costumes. But, we can also appreciate it in everyday fashion in many shades and stones like jade and emeralds. I like to create my unique shades of greens in my hand-made clay beads by mixing my original colors from blue and yellow and adding pearl whites, transparent and darker clays, creating a wide variety of greens.

I also enjoy my confidence mixing and matching shades of greens to combine in interesting ways as well as with contrasting colors, patterns and textures from the color wheel.  Have you noticed the trend spike with the color green?

Are you a fashion insider that can come to consider green as the new neutral? In Club Creative Studio Art here are specific shades you can expect to see highlighted and combined with interesting patterns and bold combinations for spring and summer 2013.

From a meaning of colors perspective, green is also the color of renewal and rebirth. It renews and restores depleted energy.  This is why there is so much of this relaxing color on the earth, and why we should embrace and consider wearing more of the shades of green.

Soldered Art- Feature Friday

Welcome to the blog at Club Creative Studio. If you are new here, Friday is typically reserved for a post called: “Feature Friday”.  I happily highlight what I am working on or a recent project on Friday.

Club Creative Studio- Soldered Art

I have a new love for soldering and I have been busy creating and building up an inventory with this medium as a focus.  I have soldered a bit in the past however, I have never taken this art to this extreme, creating several successful hand-made pendants.

Club Creative Studio- Soldered Sea Theme

The recent creations have been placed as a new category on the website under Soldered Art.  Also,  many items created with a sea theme will be available in a venue in New Jersey along the shore.

Club Creative Studio Art

Club Creative Studio’s Soldered Art is designed to be one-of-a-kind, statement pieces. I have incorporated a variety of elements to include, wire, ceramic tile, shells, mixed metals, hand-rolled polymer clay and glass beads, charms, buttons, stones, semi-precious gems, crystals and a few other surprises.

Understanding Clay-Celebrate the Letter U

Club Creative Studio is my workplace where wonderful things happen in clay. It is why I work with it almost everyday. I am in constant learning mode because there are no limitations as to what can be created with polymer clay. Understanding a few important nuances makes it easier to work with it. Today, I celebrate the letter “U” by sharing tips which lead to understanding clay and some of its unique qualities.

Club Creative Studio Hand-Made Beads

You may not realize that clay must to be “conditioned” before use. That means that it needs to be made into a soft, more pliable state. Sometimes that initial step takes more time than designing. Here are some of the ways I soften clay.

1. I placing my clay portion in a zip-locked baggie and sit on it while working on something else or place in a pocket to warm for a bit.

2. With my clay in a zip-locked secured baggie, I sometimes also place in a bowl of warm water.

Club Creative Studio clay
I use every scrap of clay, even what can be called the unconditioned crumbs.

3. I use a pasta machine. I am not Italian but, I use the pasta machine almost daily.  This is the best piece of equipment for conditioning polymer clay. You may not realize that I need to “pass” the clay through the pasta machine at least 20 times in order to condition my clay properly.

4. I combine kneading with use of the pasta machine to condition and mix my clay colors. By kneading and hand-rolling my clay, I am able to mix my own personal colors by blending several combinations of clay together. Good thing I paid attention in color theory courses because I use color concepts everyday I create.

I hope in this post you have gained an understanding of what I do with clay before the “real fun” of designing takes place. I welcome your comments below, especially if you learned a thing or two.

Custom and Cool: Celebrate the Letter C

Two words that are happily celebrated by Club Creative Studio are custom and cool.

Everyone is gifted quoteI believe that we are all gifted on some level artistically. When being creative, customization and expressing a “cool factor” are also part of what makes art meaningful. I love combining those expressions.

Artistic talents can be obvious and run deep or they can be on the surface yet undetected by many. The key to flourishing in creative ways is to know how to embrace your creativity and develop it so we can share it with others in custom and cool ways.

Today I ‘d like to share two stories that illustrate the fact that I have found a way to blend the words custom and cool together with the love of beads and jewelry-making.  Both experiences deal with the idea that customization of art is cool for many reasons.

artfullife

I personalize (customize) artistic ideas so that the art can be even more meaningful for the customer.

Once upon a time, I created many items for a special person. The cool custom request was from a person who was gifting a cruise to her Mother and Father along with her siblings for their Wedding Anniversary. The special request came with the luggage…so to speak…I was asked to create matching jewelry for each outfit that was pre-packed. The art was going to be a surprise when she opened up the suitcase. So, happily I created several items and they were all placed in the suitcase.

This was certainly a different request and needless to say, it was a welcomed challenge for me. What unique thoughtfulness to furnish hand-made accessories for a special vacation trip. As the story continues, the art became something to look forward to each day and the accessories were associated with a memorable life event. That story reminds me that creating for a custom request can always have a cool outcome.

Creating custom art for a specific cause or learning why a special request is made for art is rewarding because the project always has a special meaning associated with it for the one requesting the art.  With an emotional story associated with the art it is elevated above and beyond what a person sees without knowing the full story behind the art.

Club Creative Studio Initial bride's maid bracelets

Other rewarding stories are generally similar in satisfaction anytime that I create specifically requested items such as keepsake awareness bracelets, matching bride’s maids jewelry, a theme charm bracelet, or even a symbolic journey necklace.

Club Creative Studio- Journey Necklace

I love interpreting meaning and knowing the purpose behind a creation, It’s the customer’s connection to the art that matters the most. In this “Journey Necklace”, I took heed of this person’s story of personal struggle and noted her symbolic emergence into strength and willingness to overcome her difficult life situation.  The butterfly wings are a symbol of her growth and the colors are her requested favorite hues.  Together we were able to retell her story through this art and I was able to once again combine the words “custom” and “cool” into success in art. It’s a personal touch that brought the words custom and cool together, and you can request this of me anytime by e-mail: veronica@clubcreativestudio.com

It is for that reason that I readily and happily accept custom requests. It ensures that art has an emotional and aesthetic attraction, which deems it priceless in the eyes of the beholder.

B is for Beautiful Beads (of course)

Club Creative Studio multi-color hand-made beadsBeads may be small in size but they can pack a big punch when seen in your choice of accessories.  Beads have a beautiful place in many lives in fashion and home décor.  Club Creative Studio captures that focal interest and the details of individual beads by creating and incorporating hand-made beads into art.

Club Creative Studio- hand-made beads

Beautiful beads made by hand in clay and glass highlight the items created by Club Creative Studio.  It’s hard to ignore the colorful qualities and uniqueness of each bead used in our creations. It’s what gives the festive feeling and artful characteristics of individualism to each art piece.

Club Creative Studio hand-made beads

My process from start to finish of creating a single clay bead can take up to thirteen steps from start to completion. This ensures that each bead has one-of-a-kind qualities and can not be duplicated in the same manner. Combined with other elements, these beads complete a look like no other in manufactured jewelry or items with beads added to them it’s what I am most proud of!

This addiction to making beads started with the love of hand-rolling clay and hand-torching Italian glass. It continues with the excitement and thrill of incorporating the beads into artful creations, sharing Art That Sets You Apart in various ways. You may notice the pop of color and added interest detail that hand-made beads provide when placed in art.  It’s a quality that is very appealing to many.

Putting It Together- Cold Connections

Club Creative Studio- Cold connection art

Club Creative Studio has been a busy place.  I have had a great time working with my mixed metal recently.  Discovering how and what I want to create by meshing layered metals in a cold connection (rivet technique) is a fun challenge. Of course, I wish to also incorporate my hand-made beads as well.

I have been working with 24-guage sheet metals. I have found that to be the most beloved thickness to design and make my jewelry with.  My studio is quite noisy when I decide to texture my metal pieces because I am hammering and pounding.  I have a new textured hammer that is double-sided and has interchangeable ends for making interesting designs.  And I also use my chasing hammer as a multi-purpose hammer for smoothing and doming, shaping and riveting. The ball-peen hammer is my main punching tool and I love the surface texture I can pound using this type hammer.

Recently to incorporate my hand-rolled clay beads, I create a pendant using mixed metals and a cold connection, then add Club Creative Studio one-of-a-kind beads to the art.  What a great combination.  To see more, be sure to check on the Facebook page and online. I will be adding sneak peek photographs and items available for in those particular venues.

I will be taking photos of my metal working tools at some point and use them as a blog topic. Would that be of interest to you? Let me know what other tools of my trade you would like to learn more about.  Be creative every day!

Blue Christmas- Inspired By Elvis

Club Creative Studio is sharing theme art in this Feature Friday post today that has been inspired by music on the radio.  It’s that time of year that the sounds of Christmas fill our airways.  Appreciating Christmas carols are part of our traditions, and one has inspired me to create a few statement pieces of hand-made jewelry art in the color blue.

Club Cretive Studio Art. Hand-made pendant.
Club Cretive Studio Art. Hand-made pendant.

The necklace above is made of various mixed metals, faux pearls, glass beads, shell buttons and dyed shell beads, a tea pot charm and a blue and black clay bead from polymer clay.

Lately the tune Blue Christmas sung my Elvis Presley has been heard quite often. So, I decided to create from the title of the song.  I don’t seem to createhand-made items in the color blue very often. I don’t know why. I have nothing against blue. I like blue. So, to concentrate on one specific color, and create item after item in the blue theme, was a welcome challenge and change of pace. How does the color blue make you feel? Does it make you feel down or lift your spirits with a calm feeling?

Using music as inspiration is easy because you can listen to words over and over and take to heart what is being conveyed to you. Any given day may render a new meaning while listening to the same words of a tune so use that as inspiration as well.

Theme jewelry-making can be a challenge to create because you may feel like you are limited in creativity however, it can also be a welcome task because you are placed in a position that you need to stick to in terms of a certain style, mood, or color.

Creative Thankfulness (6)

Artist: Veronica Campos-Hallstrom

My Thankfulness Challenge continues, and I continue to document at least one thing during the day that I am thankful for.  Sometimes it relates to art specifically, other times not. Today, is one of those days that my thankfulness relates to my art.

Being artful tends to be a big part of my day since it is also my job to create art on demand. Last night, I heard a news story that stuck in my mind and today it helped prompt my thankfulness in this blog post.  Today’s post tells a story of thankfulness for my hands.

My workplace: Club Creative Studio, is packed with many different supplies and needed tools. There is one element that makes my art creations easy that is often over-looked and taken for granted. Today, I express my thankfulness for the constant use of my HANDS, specifically my fingers as functioning tools that I need daily to make artful creations.

I use my hands daily to create one-of-a-kind artful items.

The news feature that gave me this blog prompt was reported and started out by telling the story of a few men who were enjoying a fishing trip together. When one caught a large fish, there was also a surprise attached. Upon further observation, they discovered that the fish had an unexpected object in his jaws along with the line and hook. Much to their dismay, they discovered that it was a human finger! My first reaction was “eeewww” and I then wondered how quickly the question of who it belonged to could be solved.

As the story continued, they found the man who the finger belonged to. It seems that two months prior, he had lost his fingers in a water sport related accident in the same body of water where the fisherman initially were. Those who had analyzed the finger apparently asked him if he wanted it returned to him. He answered, “Why would I want a two-month old dead finger?” He declined to take it back.

This brought to my mind that this person had moved-on and had adapted to his new method of living his life. He had no use for a finger that would not be of use to him. How often do we take for granted elements in our life that we use on a daily basis?  I think geez, without my eyesight or hands, how would I make beads? I don’t know that answer for sure. But, I am grateful and appreciative of the hands, my main working tool that I use everyday in my creations.

Today, I am especially thankful for my HANDS. For, it is from them that I am able to create and express myself. Making beads, jewelry and art with my hands are at the core of sharing creations with you. It gives me pride to be able to create unique items and share them with you as no one else can because they are made only from one pair of hands…mine.

Creative Thankfulness (5)

Club Creative Studio Art and bold suede cord strands.

Today, Club Creative Studio stops to be thankful for three words and the implications it brings to the fashion world. Choice, chance and change.

Choices

It is great news to know that hand-made art can be both unique and affordable. You are able to realize that when you wear something created from Club Creative Studio, you are the only one in the entire world that owns it.  When you wear something hand-made and one-of-a-kind, you express yourself as being an individual and special.  We are happy to offer a variety of choices online and take pride in knowing that nothing is ever made in duplicate.  The choice is yours to be different and supportive of the arts and art created by hand. Make a choice to express yourself creatively.

Chances

Chances are you will notice that suede is going to be popular in shoes and maybe elsewhere. I have created several simple necklaces that have colored suede cords as the strands so that is right on target for the Fall fashion season already.  The color cobalt blue is said to be popular as well as glitter and sparkle (yeah).  While you will still see and enjoy tone-on-tone items, statement pieces and men’s wear inspired looks will spill into women’s accessories.  How will you take a chance in your Fall fashion statements?  Dare to be different! Take a chance, show your creative side.

This Fall season: you’ll notice tassels, Oxford flat shoes, leopard and wing-tipped shoes, and colored toe caps, the chunky look and to me the most exciting: patterns and bold colors!

Bright colors are great for summer and fall if combined with other accessories that can compliment the boldness.

Changes

What changes will you be inspired to make?  Will you embrace the glitter and sequins trend?  Will you explore and appreciate the colors and patterns in new items?  As far as making beads that relate to the new trends, I am pleased and excited to see more contrasting colors and floral and geometric graphics around us. I look forward to coordinating Art That Sets You Apart with fashion-forward movements. Make a change from being ordinary to extraordinary, strut your creative stuff!

image:wowshoes580warcraftshoes

You might notice how things I look at can inspire bead-making for me. Do you see any similar qualities in the shoes above and the rectangle bamboo beads pictured here? Like changing your shoes, adding bright and bold colors to your wardrobe could be the jumpstart you need to meet and greet the new trend.  I remain thankful that our items lend well to standing out and offering unique and varied choices of art.

Color and texture combine for an interesting look for Fall.

Have fun as you attempt to use your creativity and make choices, take a chance, and allow the changes to be an extended expression of your style.  I’d love to help by suggesting that Club Creative Studio creations are as unique as you are.  Club Creative Studio Art found at http://www.clubcreativestudio.com offers you a wide choice of hand-made creations, gives you the chance to visit over and over again and purchase online at your convience, as well as shares in the excitement that our art can change your appearance in an affordable manner through its hand-crafted artistic designs.
