Go With the Creative Flow

Question: Imagine you are in a sinking rowboat surrounded by sharks. How would you survive?

You may be wondering what the answer has to do with creativity since this blog has a focus on creative themes.  Actually this is a riddle with a creative answer.

Answer: Stop imagining.

Often times as creative people, we may feel that thinking as others do is just easier. After all, it takes work sometimes to use our imagination and think differently.

Quote: Esa Mena

The best quality of someone embracing their creativity is that they are taking a path less followed. They don’t care about going with the flow like the norm. We should be striving to show ourselves as well as others what makes us unique and use our imaginations to the fullest capacity. How then can one simply “stop imagining”?

Welcome times you can imagine with open arms.  As children, those wells flowed freely without inhibitions.  Children laugh, play and experiment with creative ideas. Too often as we grow older, our wells clog or worse- run dry.  We become alien to our imaginative thoughts.

Don’t let anything block the flow of creativity.  Can you commit to being creative everyday for a week, a month, a year or a lifetime? What is your call to become creative and show how you roll?

Happily, I have a passion and commitment to creativity in my life.  I am pleased to share what I create in my journey. I use my imagination daily and can’t imagine not imagining!

How are you motivated to use your imagination or what gets you unstuck when your well of ideas is running low?  I welcome your comments.

My Beaded Path

Lately, I have been on a journey along a new path. Dealing with seed beads has been a walk in joy.  In the past, I have always swayed away from seed beading because the beads are so small (like mustard seeds) and I did not think I had the required patience for creating with them.

Seed Beads are very tiny "seed-like" glass beads.

I always admired the detail that small beads added to jewelry art. Knowing and appreciating that each bead was placed on a needle one at a time. I was surprised at the fact that working with a needle and tread along with hundreds of beads was actually a relaxing activity for me.  Beading like this guarantees that I sit down, calculate and count, and really concentrate on my creative process.

Here is what I enjoy about sharing these creations. Still being able to create free-form art, I have learned that although I am slow from start to finish, the quality shows that I have taken time and care into the art I am creating. I always value transferring  the value of hand-made dedication to the customer.  Also, this type of art is still created to be one-of-a-kind. I love creating uniquely.

I have only begun this collection of beaded cuffs and I have plans to venture out in other projects using seed beads. I have enjoyed the freedoms to work in many art mediums and I take pride in offering others one-of-a-kind, handmade festive and fun items in many different ways.

Sweet Soutache Success

The free-form, technique of beading and sewing known as Soutache is a wonderful creative activity with a free-spirit.

Welcome to the Club Creative Studio blog. Today, we focus on the Bohemian-style art form.  Bold and organic in form, this technique is fun to create.

Soutache is a narrow herringbone pattern braid used as fiber trimming. Many have used this free-form technique as a jewelry application. I have also found a new-found appreciation for combining my beading and sewing creative skills.

This ribbon weaving between beads is called Soutache (pronounced sü-‘tash) and I just adore wrapping and folding around my bead stash.  The beads and cords are held together with stitches of thread.  It’s my kind of sewing. Making unique one-of-a-kind jewelry creations.

I have discovered that I have best results when my designs in Soutache are not planned but are random. I let the cord and my beads inspire the design and lead me to the final results.

Beaded Embroidery Cuff Bracelets

This is another TNT Thursday. This-N-That (TNT) is the general topic of conversation here. I share a dilemma today, perhaps in time I will come to a conclusion soon.

Lately, I have been creating hand-made beaded embroidery cuff bracelets. Normally, I love to create something new and share it with others as soon as possible online, within my local vendor spaces or in specialty shops.

These projects however have involved a learning curve, a planning phase, several steps to completion, the need for many materials on hand as well as a time dedication. More so than any other project I have embarked upon at one sitting.

With all that going for it and sometimes against it- the finished product is stunning.

My questions come as I complete each one and step back to realize and analyze the time spent on the creation. As to date, I have not completed one in less than five hours. That is a lot of time invested in a single creation. Should I continue to make more knowing that the price needs to be reflective of the amount of time it takes in its lengthy creation?

With each additional cuff I have created, I begin with hopes that the time frame from start to finish is less than five hours. I am patiently waiting for that joyful experience.

In the meantime, I create these cuff bracelets with care and love for the process. I may or may not find any short-cuts to cut the creation time frame down. In the end the desire to maintain a unique one-of-a-kind art piece remains the focus and the reason for the joy at seeing the completed work of art.

Truth be told, this is one reason that makes hand-made art more valuable. It was not manufactured quickly and without thought. Hand-made items take personal time and dedication. This adds value to your unique piece of art by Club Creative Studio. I am happy to share art with those that appreciate that value and mix of time, and talent passed along in an artful item.
